Are you trying to be funny ...?
After a very long lay-off from cartooning, or indeed drawing of any kind, I'm back with an entry to the Cartoonists' Forum Competition. This week's challenge was a cartoon using the set caption "Are you trying to be funny ..?" the answer to which is, I guess ... yes, I am.
It's always nice to renew acquaintance with Dr Frankenstein and his Monster.

Pens of Yesteryear
I've been sorting out some of my drawing equipment and in the process uncovered the bottles of ink needed for two of my favourite drawing pens. One was a very small bottle of black Rotring ink for a marker pen I used to draw "Journey" below. I stood the pen up with its reservoir in the ink bottle but even after several hours the nib still wouldn't work, so I binned it (and the bottle).
Better results with the old bottle of Quink and the Osmiroid sketching pen. That's what I used for "Daily Star 3" below and it looks like it works really well. Hurrah. Looking forward to using it again.

Journey
"With hope in his heart and all his worldly goods on his back, he set off on his great journey."
An illustration for this week's Illustration Friday topic - Journey.

King
This week's challenge from Illustration Friday is : King. I've dug out another cartoon from the Archive (originally done with a sketching fountain pen and ink), changed the caption and run it through Photoshop to colour it.
It's nice to be back on the treadmill.

Proteus Pencil
1B pencil on lined foolscap
Here's something from a long time ago. This is a pencil drawing I did for the cover of a fanzine called PROTEUS, some time in the mid-60s. I'd have traced this onto a wax stencil before cutting through the wax to produce something that could be run off on a duplicator.
Technology has moved on a bit since then.

Merry Xmas
This weekend the Cartoonists' Forum Cartoon Competition asked for a cartoon using the caption - "It's exactly what I have always wanted."
Merry Xmas to one and all.
[Later: This one won second place. So that's quite nice]

Pantomime
I had to complete this in a tearing hurry ("Oh no you didn't!"), but still fell victim to a computer monitor reluctant to wake up after a few days rest. As a consequence, I was too late to join the plethora of pantomime horse jokes in this weekend's Cartoonists' Forum Competition on the theme of - Pantomime.

Shadow
Mota Tamer (mixed media)
This week, Illustration Friday asked for something on the theme of Shadow. Here's a cover I did for the fanzine MOTA in 1977, given the once over in Photoshop. Posted here in memory of my old mate, Terry Hughes.
