RIP: Mike Glicksohn

Posted in memory of my old friend Mike who died in Toronto today aged 65. He was a a Hugo Award-winning fanzine editor, a fannish giant and above all a great guy. I can't believe he's gone.

I thought I was cried out for tonight, Harry. Your art brings joy and laughter through my tears. Thank you. Sympathy.

It's a very sad time for us all, but let's remember him laughing. He did that a lot.

This is wonderful; and if I ever loose my faith in fandom, which I do from time to time, I'm sure I will only have to remember this and Mike too to get it back.

Thanks, Harry! Wonderfully evocative of the man.

Excellent, Harry. Thinking back over the past half-century, I suspect that no fan has been caricatured as much or as often as der Glick. Yours is right up there with the best of Derek Carter and Al Curry, though you've a few dozen more to do before you catch up with their volume...

That one is really good, and I like the colour reworking a great deal.

But as far as I am concerned, the funniest one you did of Mike was published in his 1975 DUFF trip report The Hat Goes Home, in which you showed him sheepishly peeking up out of a kangaroo's pouch and doffing his cap at her, while she is looking rather crossly down at the hairy cuckoo in her nest.

I thought it was brilliant, which is why I sought it out and reprinted it in the anthology I published of your fannish cartoons, Bellissimo!
